NEW South Wales has continued its dominance of the National Under-18 Female Cricket Championships, winning the Betty Butcher Shield for the ninth consecutive time in Ballarat.

The Blues beat Victoria in the 50-over apiece final at Eastern Oval yesterday by 120 runs, scoring 7/253 before bundling their opponents out for just 133.

After the early loss of Jenny Taffs without score, skipper Lily Bardsley and Mary Molloy combined for a 158-run second wicket partnership, with both girls scoring 82.

Ashleigh Gardner (29 from 26 balls) and Stefanie Daffara (27 from 32 balls) added important runs late to help set up the highly competitive total.

Julia Crockett-Grills (2/39), Sarah Chancellor-Goddard (2/39) and Nicola Hancock (2/51) each worked hard witht he ball for the Vics.

The side’s batsmen though struggled, parat from Emily Smith, who easily top-scored with 46.

Victoria was reeling at 3/19, then 6/45 and then 9/86, before a late flurry from No.11 Kyra Black (31 from 35 balls) added some respectability to the scoreboard before the side was finally dismissed in the 39th over.

Three run outs hurt Victoria’s chances, while Anna Horton (2/16) and Ashleigh Gardner (2/24) were the best bowlers for NSW.

The Betty Wilson Medal for Player of the Championships was shared between Chloe Piparo, from Western Australia, and Zoe Cooke, from the ACT.

Piparo picked up leading runscorer with 299 runs at a stunning average of 99.67, ahead of all-rounder Cooke, who compiled 251 runs at 41.33, and took 12 wickets at 10.50 apiece.

Amanda-Jade Wellington, from South Australia, also had a terrific tournament with the bat and ball, as the leading wicket-taker with 19 wickets at an average of 6.63, while also scoring 157 runs at 26.17.
