BASEBALL Australia has announced the squad that will travel to Taiwan for the Under-18 World Cup from August 30-September 8.

Named on the Gold Coast, the line-up will be headed up for the first time by manager Jason Pospishil, of the Sydney Blue Sox, and supported by Graeme Lloyd, from Perth Heat, Damian Shanahan, of the Melbourne Aces, and Brian Murphy.

“We have a strong team here, which is also reflected in the quality of players who didn’t make it. There is a real depth of talent in the squad and selections had to be made based on the player’s performance in-camp,” Pospishil said.

Twelve nations will compete to be world champions and Australia will start with tough pool play facing Columbia, Italy and baseball powerhouses Cuba, South Korea and the United States.

“The practice games against Canada and the Japanese side this week were really valuable to evaluate the players against good quality opposition,” Pospishil added.
