THE fourth installment of the National Junior Track Series kicks off this weekend at Sydney’s Dunc Gray Velodrome, with 170 junior riders from across the country competing over two days of action-packed racing.

The NJTS is a four-round series, which will also include weekends in Melbourne, Launceston and then Adelaide as part of the Santos Tour Down Under. For the first time, under-19 women will compete and race with the U17 women in a sixty-strong field.

The reigning club champion from last season, Brunswick Cycling Club, boasts three teams for the opening round, with such riders as Nathan Bof, Riley Hart, Sarah Gigante and Greta Curran all returning for another shot at the title.

Cycling Australia says Country Victoria, Northern Queensland, Western Australia and rural New South Wales are well represented this season, with country interest in the event grown with Mt Gambier, South Australia’s Riverland, Wagga Wagga, Newcastle, Goulburn, Bathurst and Dubbo also in attendance.

It says under-17 female rider Eve Marker will fly the flag for the Darwin Cycling Club and the Northern Territory for a second year, with the daughters of Australian cycling great Kenrick Tucker (Lara and Brooke) to travel from Rockhampton in Northern Queensland to contest the series.
