Aussie juniors set for Trans Tasman triathlon battle
- Updated: January 8, 2015
AUSTRALIAN Junior Series leaders Matt Hauser and Sophie Malowiecki will headline competition as the cream of Australia and New Zealand’s emerging triathlon talent converges on Penrith this weekend for the 2015 OTU Oceania Junior Triathlon Championships.
The event will also act as round two of the Australian Junior Triathlon Series, with the Queensland pair both finishing unbeaten in round one on the Gold Coast last month.
They will face a talented line-up eager to beat them, however, as the best-of-the-best eye places on their respective national teams for this year’s ITU World Championships in Chicago.
Malowiecki, who will be aiming to win a place in her third Australian Junior Team, will have the return of Kira Hedgeland to contend with after the West Australian missed the opening round with injury,
Hauser will be joined by 2014 World Junior Championship bronze medallist Calvin Quirk, as well as his Australian teammate and fellow Queenslander Matt Roberts and Kiwi stars Daniel Hoy and Tayler Reid.
Going into round two Hauser leads the Series from Roberts, Quirk, Reid, 2013 Youth champion Caleb Agostino-Morrow (NSW) and Brandon Copeland (QLD), while Malowiecki leads the girls from Jessica Claxton (WA), Grace Hoitink (ACT), Hayley Stanford (VIC), Laura May (NSW) and Jessica Hoskin (QLD).
