NSW doubles up to claim two national youth baseball titles
- Updated: January 20, 2015
NEW South Wales have doubled up to claim to two national baseball titles – in the men’s under-18 championships and the girls’ under-15 championships.
On home soil at the Blacktown International Sportspark, the NSW U18 men saw off Western Australia 2-1 in the final match to secure their success.
West Australia could take some solace out of the fact Alan Kenny claimed the Golden Arm award and Jake Turnbull was competition MVP.
Queensland’s Louis Baker won the Golden Bat and South Australia’s Mitchell Lightbody the Golden Glove awards, respectively, after outstanding individual performances.
The NSW U15 girls also saw off WA to claim their title, at Canberra’s Narrabundah Ballpark.
NSW’s Jordan Richardson won the Golden Bat award, while WA pair Megan Everitt (Golden Glove), and Kelsey Brennan (Golden Arm, MVP) scooped the rest of the individual honours.
Victoria Blue, meanwhile, took out the boy’s under-16 championship, also at Blacktown International Sportspark, with WA again having to settle for runner-up status.
Nathan Picchioni led the way for the Vics, being named the competition MVP, while NSW’s Jacob Krkovski claimed the Golden Bat award, Queensland’s Dermot Fritsch the Golden Glove and Country NSW’s Alex Osbourne the Golden Arm.
