AUSTRALIA's under-18 girls' team has returned from the Hong Kong International Women's Baseball Tournament, the Phoenix Cup, with a well-deserved bronze medal.
The girls overcame South Korea's Guri-City NineVics in the playoff for third place, 10-5, at the event which involved 10 teams from Singapore, Taiwan, and Japan, as well as Australia, South Korea and the hosts.
Head coach Dan Hayes told Baseball Australia that he was “extremely happy with the girls' performance during the tournament. They worked well under the pressure of the coaching staff and exceeded all expectations”.
Georgia Bower was named the Most Valuable Player for Australia, while Olivia Bannon was joint-winner of the competition home run award with Pei Hsuan Chou, of the Taipei Yu-Sheng Highmatch team from Taiwan.
Bower led the way in the final match three hits, backed up by Abbey Kelly with two as the team scored 10 runs from nine hits in four innings.
