Beaten Kong still comes away winner twice over
- Updated: October 1, 2015
VICTORIAN Marcus Kong may have been upset in the final of the boys’ singles final at the 2015 Li-Ning U15 National Championships in Adelaide to Ryan Venpin.
But Kong still managed to come away from Satterly Hall with two victories, in the boys’ doubles with WA’s Milain Ranasinghe, and the mixed doubles with fellow Victorian Nalini Kuhanandha.
Venpin, the number three seed, upstaged the top seed, Kong, in their epic singles final 21-12 19-21 15-21 – a match that lasted 41 minutes.
But Kong turned the tables on Venpin and his partner, Ross Audley, when partnering Ranasinghe in the boys’ doubles final, 21-16 21-15.
With Kuhanandha, Kong also defeated Ranasinghe and Victoria He in the mixed final, 18-21 19-21.
In other results, top-seeded Zecily Fung took out the girls’ singles by beating Nalini Kuhanandha in their final, 21-17 21-16, while both players were beaten when teaming for the girls’ doubles final by Maggie Chan and Victoria He, 21-13 15-21 21-19.
