South Aussies finally bite into U16 baseball title
- Updated: January 23, 2016
IT TOOK 37 years, but South Australia has finally broken through to claim its first ever national under-16 boys baseball title.
The state was crowned National Youth Champions after upsetting Victoria Blue in the final at Sydney’s Blue Sox Stadium, 7-4.
The Victorians had held a 2-0 lead over SA Bite going into the championship-decider, but weren’t allowed to continue their form.
The South Australians were on top of both their offensive and defensive games early, at one stage leading 6-0 after two innings.
Ky Hampton pitched a superb game, while Nick George, Jarrod Miller and Mason Clavell each scored two rounds.
Vic Blue’s Jarryd Dale received some consolation by being named the tournament MVP and winner of the Golden Bat award. Queensland’s Duane Johannsen was named Golden Arm, while West Australia’s Dawson Summers won the Golden Glove.
