New track racing champions crowned in Adelaide

THE 2016-17 National Junior Track Series (NJTS) came to an exciting conclusion at the Adelaide Super-Drome, with four new champions crowned.
With four rounds of racing starting last October in Melbourne, before stops in Sydney and Brisbane for the first time and the largest fields in the events history the series went from strength to strength in a promising sign for Australian cycling.
After dominating the series from the opening round in Sydney, Max Leiner (Carnegie Caulfield Blue) was crowned the under 15 winner on 262 points, 115 points clear of second place finisher Dylan Eather (WRAS-1), with James Anthony (Brunswick Orange) a further 10 points behind.
SMCA Yellow’s Olivia Saunders took out the under 15 women’s crown on 232 points, with Lucinda Stewart (Carnegie Caulfield Blue-170) and Tyler Puzicha (WRAS-1-140) completing the podium.
The under 17 men’s category saw a close battle to claim the title with James Moriarty (Balmoral Blue) finishing on 192 points, just holding off a late charge from Graeme Frislie (Brunswick Black-179) with Sam Gallagher (Blackburn) one point further behind.
SA State Development Squad’s Heather May took out the under 17 women’s crown with a strong showing on her home track. Sharni Morley (Brunswick Orange) on 161 points and Luicia Azzopardi (Brunswick Orange-146) completed the podium.
Carnegie Caulfield Blue took a run away victory in the team classification, finishing on 957 points, more than 200 clear of Brunswick Orange on 728 points and SA State Development Squad’s 630 point haul.
