Croft sets up huge Junior Kangaroos win over Junior Kiwis
- Updated: May 6, 2017
THE Junior Kangaroos set up a commanding 46-22 win over the Junior Kiwis at Canberra’s GIO Stadium to make it three-successive wins over their trans-Tasman rivals.
Led by Brodie Croft, the host nation made all the early running, leading 30-0 at the break, and then scored the first two tries of the second half to take the margin out to 40 points.
The visitors managed to put some respectability in the scoreboard by the final siren and avoid a record loss.
Croft, who has been earmarked to take over from Cooper Cronk at the Melbourne Storm, was the architect of the win, the 19-year-old having a hand in four of his side’s nine tries while also gaining significant ground with his boot.
Newcastle Knights back-rower Sam Stone raced through to ground a Croft grubber for the Junior Kangaroos’ first try after nine minutes and set the tone for the match.
Junior Kangaroos 46 (Tyronne Roberts-Davis 2, Reece Robson 2, Sam Stone, Victor Radley, Jai Field, Jaydn Su’A, Corey Allan tries; Jai Field 5 goals) def. Junior Kiwis 22 (Steve Marsters, Dane Aukafolau, Jarome Luai, Briton Nikora tries; Patrick Herbert 3 goals) at GIO Stadium.
